I was always sceptic on the Arcam brand as the presentation is not good. A very plastic look with a display that looks also a bit slap-dash out of the timezone of Trechikitch. I have purchased (I was curios) a oldish Alpha 8 (not the SE which adds HDCD capablity but retracts from the original - from reviews) and I am stunned with what comes out of the device.
An absolute gem... beyond expectations.
The analog out has a 20-bit digital filter, 1-bit PWM DACs, and balanced analog filters...
Sound is sweet laid-back and with ample bass 8)
