I've just bought a pair of 1979 Tannoys.
Apart from needing new surrounds (R600 each by willie) they are in great condition.
12 inch drivers strontium ferrite magnets. (I know, I know, the alnico are the desirable ones).
These drivers are bloody huge - the pictures don't prepare one for them! Imagine a conical straw hat. A very heavy one.
They sound terrific - I stand by my premise that speakers haven't evolved much over the years, Evidence: Tannoy, Acoustat, Magnepan, Dahlquist, Electrovoice, Quad.
This is the first anything I've bought so quickly, now I need to think - will the DJ amp drive them well? Will Rudi's preamp do the job? Do we need to build (and veneer!) a new enclosure? Man, this is going to be fun!
