I really need some input here guys...my patio speakers sound thin and awful with no bass to speak of.

There are 8 in ceiling Boston 6.5" speakers set in the slab with wooden lined boxes (30cm W x 30cm L x 20cm D  = 18 Litres).  I have lined out the boxes with underfelt, which didn't make a significant difference.  The floor is travertine, and no scope for any wall or ceiling treatments apart from the outdoor furniture that is already there. The patio is the length of the house and open on 3 sides.
I'll be using a Behringer DEQ to sort out mostly the upper frequencies, but I need to increase the bass beyond what the Bostons are capable of.

Would you recommend :
1. replace 4 of the 8 Bostons with in ceiling subwoofers like these - http://goo.gl/XEApZh, despite the minimum volume requirement of 20 litres, where I only have 18 litres.
2. add a normal active subwoofer, which will be inside a cabinet with it's floor removed, leaving a downward firing subwoofer about 40cm above the floor, but fairly close to the corner of an alcove.  The Behringer Eurolive B1200D Sub will fit, and costs less than the 4 in-ceiling subwoofers.  http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/B1200D-PRO.aspx.  It does about 60Hz at -3dB, which for low frequency extension, can easily be outdone by a domestic subwoofer for the same price - R5k or so.

Anything else I can try ?
