Is chasing audio nirvana stupid?

The more I upgrade the less I can listen to more of my music (mostly due to bad recordings/engineered discs).
The music that does sound good sound better but the variety is getting smaller.
What is the use then of chasing the elusive?
Just rambling while Coltrane sooths my Sunday soul
