I remember my dad's old HiFi setup... he'd built some stuff, and about 20 years ago my folks moved, and some stuff didn't move with them. There was a Fisher integrated amp (unknown fate), some speakers (unknown fate, a pity as I think they were good, vaguely remember big ass 15" celestion drivers and ribbon tweets), turntable (unknown fate) and a tonearm. I remember that being an SME, so on a recent visit asked him about it. Oh, it's in a box in the workshop, he sez.

And this is what was inside.

It's a 12-inch SME 3012, think it's the Series 2. It's in good condition, no pitting, etc. The only thing missing is the 4-pin plug that connects to the bottom of the arm - but that I could best solder directly to RCAs. It has a Shure M55E cart of unknown stylus condition.

So I need to clean it up, service it, get a new stylus... and work out how the hell to use it on my Thorens TD150 Mk11 turntable.

It's a bit big...

Been chatting to fdlsys about it... would it be sinful to make an "outrigger" from steel/alu that sticks out the side? Would be a trick to make it not foul the plinth. Having a floating deck is a prob...

Anyone know what this thing is worth? Want to pay my dad a reasonable price. Checked some eBay prices, but they're just silly. Almost as if sellers are artificially inflating prices...
