Yeah, yeah .... I know that that a lot of people do not trust "What Hi-Fi" reviews so take this as a news item rather than as link to reviews
BUT
UltraHD Blu-ray players are now becoming commercially available ..... there are reviews of two models on the WHF site currently
http://www.whathifi.com/panasonic/dmp-ub900/review
http://www.whathifi.com/samsung/ubd-k8500/review
the Panasonic one seems promising and the Sony one not so much but its a start and im sure theres going to be many more models released soon ..... and im definitely intrigued by the Panasonic one
if someone can afford an Oppo or similar Blu-ray player then one of these will actually be cheaper by comparison and will probably offer higher performance by virtue of the higher resolution and HDR capabilities IMHO so if you are after a Blu-Ray player now i would rather opt for something like this instead (if it can fall within your budget constraints) but there have been a few people looking for Blu-ray Players upward of R5k so when these become available here im sure that people will be curious enough to buy them
more importantly im also confident that we will now be seeing more Ultra HD content starting to become available especially with more object oriented audio content included (Dolby Atmos, DTS-X) since the larger capacity discs can probably handle these easier when paired with the additional bandwidth requirements of the higher resolution video content
