I personally think all speaker designs are a compromise! For instance, bookshelfs-lack bass, open baffles-lack bass, planars-also lack bass, electrostats-yeah you guessed it and horns-glare etc...
Knowing the design flaws, what type of "ideal compromise" have you settle on? Have you tried different typologies?
Having tried most types I personally believe all roads end at high efficiency horns speakers.
