Yesterday, on our way back from Bethal we decided to make a pit-stop at the Highveld Mall in Witbank.
I let the wimmin do their thing while I had a quick lunch at M&B. After that I popped in at Musica to get an update of some of that latest media on the market. Saw that Diana Krall's got a new album out.
The real objective of this posting is of the nice purchase I have made. "Jazz Impressions of Japan - The Dave Brubeck Quartet". This is a re-release of Brubecks 1964 jazz album inspired by the country of Japan. It is a marvelous album. The central theme is conveyed by the music in a very subtle way. You clearly get the idea that the artist is "painting" the scenes of this far-away land with his musical renditions without using a "polaroid picture" display.
I am listening to the album as I am writing this, quickly adding it to my iTunes playlist.
Already I have two favorites. "Rising Sun" & "Zen is When".
This is how I love jazz. Smooth and cool. It somehow reminds me of works from Fred Simon, Reuben Hoch and Charlie Haden.
The album is remastered. There is signs of it age during playback but I must add that the music seems to have been recorded very well.
Go get it today! ;D
