A great big thanks to Judy and Mark from Remedytech for putting this all together.
The wonderful hospitality the Pizza the Coffee and the great company.
Great to meet all you guys.
We listened to all sorts of speakers Xumbug's (Stewart) XDA Acuostic's great big home builds in prototype stage works of art they are and they sounded great. Have to give him a pat on the back for a job well done.
Those things have potential big time if they sound so good now cant wait for the final product.
We listened to two B&W CM series the old and the new some Klipsh's - Monitor Audio Golds -Mission's - Wharefdale's - Yamaha's - Boston's.
Model no's escape me The old brain cant recall like it used to.
Prices from R25,000 all the way down to a R995.
There was quite honestly not one bad one among'st them all had different strengths and shone in their own particular way. Did have a felling that some did not like the amplification as usual.
Which one was better or the best I honestly cannot say that is entirely up to personal choice and budget.
The Wharefdale 10.1 were a wake up call for the price these go for there is no contest being the cheapest of the bunch.
The Yamaha's cost R1,000 and were the most disappointing but to give them there due I would love to buy a pair just for the hell of it they are very well made and I get the felling that with the right amp they are capable of so much more there is potential and to be fair I think they did not like the room at all.
The Little Bostons were amazing such bass and clarity from those little boxes new respect for Bostons.
It was interesting how they all responded to position changes in the room just a move changed the sound in some cases remarkably.
I came away with the conclusion that I could live with any of them. Not a bad one among'st them. Of course as is usual the more you pay the more you get but you do not have to spend a fortune to have some mighty fine sound.
My personal choice if I had to would be the Klipsch they look awful but boy do they rock my kind of speaker makes me want to party and at my age wanting is all I can do. And they do not need power to drive and being a lover of low power valve amps are right up my street. And valves will tame that tweeter I know it.
Not because they were the best just that I liked them.
Would be interesting to hear the views of the others who were there.
