One of the things that I personally feel very strong about is maintaining the things we work on as close as original as possible - in most cases there is always a way, just takes a lot more time. I'm a collector of 70s AR equipment and when rebuilding the SP3s I decided to see how close to OG I can maintain the boards - the answer was actually quite simple. Most of the caps from that era is not an option anymore - so I machined daughter boards to take modern caps with the same pin out as the OG - no need to cut boards or anything - drop in replacement. All of this can be done with a small 3018 CNC router and some time.
