Hi All,

My thread yesterday re: speaker upgrades must have shaken up my subconscious a little. This morning at about 4:20am - shortly before my 18-month-old boy decided our bed was better than his - I dreamed I was listening to music with my first amp, a Harman/Kardon HK1400.

This little amp was something I lusted after for literally a year - staring at it dolefully in the window at Audio Counsel in Fourways when I was in standard nine. At last, after many weekends packing naartjies and selling nuts, spinach, biltong, pumpkins and whatever else at Maroela Padstal in Harties where I grew up - I had the requisite R2K scraped together.

Pieter Kukkuk even threw in some speaker cable for me! I was in heaven... In any event, that HK1400 made awesome music for me over period of about five years, but was sadly the victim of an affirmative shopping exercise while I was living overseas.

To the point then: Which component dragged you kicking and screaming into hi-fi, why did it impress you and do you still own it?

BTW: If anyone has an HK 1400 they don't want anymore or know of someone that has one, please let me know...
