Leaving an amp on

Hi

I have just read that it is necessary to recap ones amp every ten years or so which I did not know. My question is if there is a difference in aging between leaving an amp on and actually playing? I must admit that I sometimes fall asleep without turning the bedroom amp off. Keeping aging in mind I suppose this is a bad thing to do?

And I suppose it is even worse for my small tube headphone amp?

What does capacitors going bad sound like?
