Here's a bit of info I've become aware of recently after merrily going down the road of implementing a 12TB raid5 array. Basically, should a drive in the array fail, statistically its almost certain that another will fail during rebuild. Moral of the story - if making large volumes use raid6 instead, and even then, with today's drive capacities, be careful not to find yourself in the same position.
