I'm not happy with my headphone setup.....
Front end: Slim devices Transporter + it's own DAC (very accurate , but clinical and bass shy IMHO)
Audioquest Diamond interconnects
Woo Audio Wa2 Valve headphone amp/pre
www.wooaudio.com
Senheisser HD 650's
The problem seems my front end , My Jolida CDP was better as a source than the transporter.
The TP's digital output is good , as good as my Theta Jade
I have an old Orelle dac lying around , but its from 93 and isnt that good but its bass seems better?
Im looking for a DAC that has better control over deep bass and is more "airy" - dunno whats out there?
I dont really want to spend more than R10-15k on anything?
I'm also not 100% sure it IS the DAC ...the IC's are good and I have bout 5 other headphone amps , all exhibit the same "bass shy" trait of the TP...??
Any suggestions? Anyone got a decent dac for sale in CT that I can audition?
From the slim devices site:
Astounding analog sound
Experience astounding sound clarity. The AK4396 ?Miracle DAC? delivers high dynamic range and low distortion. Low out-of-band noise allows the use of low-order output filters with higher cutoffs, preserving phase and reducing distortion in the audible band. You'll hear pristine resolution of the exact staging of instruments and the finest details of any recording. You can even use Transporter with other digital sources via the digital inputs to take advantage of the Transporter's high-quality internal DAC.
