All the discussion around MQA etc.. got me thinking what is the lowest resolution (assuming good compression was run) that you feel comfortable with on, a system that can differentiate in playback. I gave this a try and as they say the results may surprise you
In a car 128 and 192 sound the same (HK sound system) but the road noise other cars and focusing on driving keep me sufficiently distracted that I'm not really paying attention
Working on my laptop 256 - generally I play it quite softly in the background but 128 artifacts still come through annoyingly and distract me
Active listening 320 is ok and to my ear considerably better than 256 and reasonably and I use the word reasonably decent especially for music with more force and lower dynamic range, of course flac is preferred but I don't find it overly frustrating and can still sit and actively listen.
What have you experienced?
