I am since the weekend the new owner of Joel's old Magnapan MG IIb's (Thanks Joel  ;) ).

The one panel seems to be in good shape. Measures just below 6 ohm with a DMM and even the imp seems very nice on SW.

The other is stuffed  :-\. It was repaired badly by someone. I don't see any place where the wires are off, but measures over 500 K Ohm with a multimeter. There are some corrosion on the bass wires, but the tweeter wires seems generally good. The repairs were done with copper wires, and as far as I know the wires are aluminium. My guess is the place copper was joined to the aluminium isn't making good contact.

I can now replace peaces of the 'voice coils' with proper aluminium wires and try my hand on aluminium soldering :-\. Or try replacing the whole VC myself  as described here: http://www.audioasylum.com/forums/MUG/messages/10877.html

or have it done by someone with experience for a R1000 per panel. New bass and tweeter wires to spec.  ???
