I'm still working on the Transcriptor turntable and the first thing which struck me was the apparent lack of an on/off switch.

As the job progressed, it came to the stage where I could switch the turntable on but in the meantime I have been eyeballing a glass vial which had two metal? blades encapsulated. Above the vial was an engine turned knob fitted through a plate covering part of the platter belt and situated directly above the glass vial. Below the knob's mounting plate the knob's lower part has a small cylindrical magnet of about 25mm long and about 4.5mm in diameter. So I figured that if the knob is turned, the magnet's orientation also turned and (maybe) made the two plates inside the glass vial contact each other, thus closing the ac feed to the motor.

Quite unusual. This reminded me of how I designed the mono switching on my acrylic 301, using a solenoid to close a reed switch which bridged the L & R channels.
