So my Maverick Audio D1+ DAC stopped working in January - no power coming through the unit at all, no blue LED, silence.

BK offered to show it his Tube genie and while it was with him I emailed Ryan at Maverick Audio and told him my sorry story and wondered idly if I had any recourse to a guarantee given that the unit was 11 months old. After a short delay he asked for a photo of the board to see if he could see anything immediately and obviously wrong and when he couldn't, he offered to send me a new unit and charge only for shipping.

I accepted, paid the 85 USD shipping and handling fee (a bit steep I thought but he assured me that was his cost), got hit for the arbitrary sum of 176 bucks at the border and my new DAC arrived last night. He sent me one with the stock tube and opamps (I had a Radeon tube upgrade and the better opamps in mine) but he said I should just swap them which I thought was reasonable.

So I'll be getting the opamps from my old unit which is still at BK before the weekend.

Nice to get customer service like that and I suppose that the rather pricey shipping fee for the replacement is the risk one takes when buying something that has no local representation.

Interestingly, when I first lost the DAC and resorted to using the DAC in my Integra 30.5, I didn't think there was such a great difference. Plugging in the Maverick even with the stock opamp (I had my Radeon tube from the original in my desk drawer so swapped that as soon as I checked the new machine worked) I am impressed by the sound quality anew.

Just thought I'd share this because I know there are a few Maverick owners and fans out there.
