Related to the link in General section about Inverters as a source of power, can the smart electronics guys here explain what the problem is with modified sine wave AC that results in damage to some power supplies of appliances (I've heard all sorts of rumours of plasma screens for eg being damaged).

Also what would happen if you tried to drive a good hifi with modified sine wave power?  My intuition says thats a bad idea but would like to hear what the theory says or anyone with experience in that area.

Lastly what types of devices would be "OK" on modified sine wave and which wouldnt?
