So I wanted to drive the car into the garage just now and the first thing I noticed was my key's LED flickering and not unlocking the doors.
I got the spare key but this one's batteries were totally flat so I unlocked the car manually. Tried the selfstarter and the panel lights don't even come on.
I then removed the battery and connected it to my ordinary charger and saw some weird behaviour on the charger's meter - I first set the switch to quick charge and then to slow but the needle swings rapidly to max and then to minimum either way with a strange buzzing sound. Behaviour from a charger I've never seen before.
The battery is a Bosch Silver Calcium 628C, bought in September 2009 so it's had a good innings.
Do you think the strange behaviour from my charger is caused by a dead short in the battery? There's a sticker over the cell caps stating "Never add water" but I haven't looked under the sticker yet but if there's a dead short I wouldn't be able to see it anyway.
Another thought crossed my mind - if the battery has a dead short, do you think it would have damaged my car's multitudes of electronics?
These "New generation" battery chargers - do you think one of these could 'save' the battery or bring it back from the very dead?
Thanks.
