So I have been playing around with this idea in my head for a while now. I ave a couple of console stereo's and I want to customise one of them. Its a Pilot and the only info I can make out on the front of the unit(nothing on the back) is that it says "Double dual"

Now in these times the old look doenst fit into the decor of our modern homes so I have this Retro idea of taking a console and building a seperate rosewood plinth for the garard turntable and then taking the tuner amp console and splitting it up building a seperate chassis for the tuner (component like. And then a seperate almost plinth like chassis for the amplifier section.

I will use the origanal steel plate the amplifier sits on and then just design the plinth if I can call it that around it. It will have the look of a normal valve amp then. I just have one stumbling block I am struggling with and that is how to remove that ugly big transformer look a like with the big from the steel plate and fit it with the tuner in the seperate tuner pre amp component. Does anyone know if it will make a diffrence in the over all sound if it sits away from the amp?

On closer inspection I found quite a cool looking amp. It has a tape in and out so I can connect a cd player. If only I can get some specs. I read somewhere it is 3 watts x 2. The amp is working as well as the tt but I plan on new stylus and refurbing the tt and then also new caps for the amp.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I know some of the older members would just love to tell me the console is inferior and not high end. But my intention is not to build a high end system. My idea is to build a retro style component with a more modern feel but with valve sound. If there is some tubes faulty I got a whole box full of tubes with some other 3 consoles I bought from an antique store the other day. So my only real expense will be the the caps. The wood for the chassis of the component is also going to be rosewood and I think its going to look real retro. I'm also going to build some vintage clone speakers to round of the system.

Any positive ideas on a concept like this? I really am not going to restore this one to its former original shape as its not my idea. I just need some info on the specs and advice on that tuner section.
