Yup - you guessed it... another cable thread.

A while ago I started to scout for some new cable for my NOS SME 3012 tonearm. You know, a bit of "self spoiling"... I did some research via Dr Google and most results pointed to Cardas' Quad Core tonearm cable. Contacted the local supplier and soon a piece, 1.3m long, was wizzed off to me.

Now here is a heads-up for your anti-cable brigade: The signal produced by my Kiseki MC cartridge is 0.4mV and should preferably be treated as delicate as possible.

The old wiring was removed from the arm including the nasty old 4-pin cable connector in the base, where the actual cable with RCA's terminated. A new cable entry was fashioned from 3mm alu and this replaced the 4-pin connector block.

The new Cardas cable passes through the alu plate in the base where it is anchored with a simple cable tie. Before passing through the bearing yoke the jacket and screen braid is also stipped as not to cause a mechanical impedance. The ends is then soldered to the headshell bayonet mounting at the front of the arm. This circuit then runs, uninterrupted to the RCA phono jacks.

This is one of those "upgrades" that truely upgrade the SQ. Treble response from my analogue front-end is now so much more clearer and RF and EMI noise is down more than 50% by my guess which means a queter backdrop and less grunge to interfere with the delicate signal.

Thumbs up for the Cardas cable! Highly recommended.
