Last night I bought an SP10mkII. It was cheap as it does not spin at the right speed. There is a bit of variety depending on what speed it is set at but none of them are right.
So, apart from me once again buying a basket case, any suggestions on what to start with in terms of sorting her out?
This is what i've found online:
1. Replacement of 3 motor capacitors with Panasonic FC low ESR capacitors; this is an essential modification as every deck will need this, it restores the motor drive back to how Panasonic intended it.
2. Main bearing clean and re-oil.
3. The electronic 'tune up' recommended by the BBC Engineering Department
-Reset master clock crystal
-Reset frequency and level of motor reference oscillator
-Reset phase tracking timing
-Reset power supply voltages
-Adjust or remove brake
The first 2 I can deal with and probably some of '3' if I can find instructions. Otherwise, is there someone who would be able to help?
