Got the Ultrasone Edition 10's about 3 weeks ago, stunning looks and build, sonically I was expecting a bright horrid headphone, but they not brighter than the Beyer T1's or HD800's. They have a weird upper midrange that takes some getting used to, and are not perfect, but they are highly detailed and pick up the tiniest bits of information. They are actually rather nice, and worthy of their place among the Germans I already own. They a fun sounding headphone and very efficient, so can be used with anything. The leather used is some ethiopian sheep skin, but by oh my is this stuff amazing. So soft and supple, great quality product.
And then today I added the AKG K812's, was second guessing these as I fear they may be too similar to my other headphones, on first listening though, these things are the darkest and arguably most forgiving of the German flagships, lovely sound and well judged throughout the frequency spectrum. They also have rock solid imaging and are far nicer in the flesh than on the pics (I still think they a bit boring looking for a flagship), obviously very early days, so will see how these pan out with some proper listening. Oddly at 32ohms and a 3.5mm termination, they actually like some juice flowing before they getting going...
So I think I now have all the major German flagships (I include Austria here), and they are all distinctly different yet similar...
