There's a huge impressive building next to SAPS Claremont in Lansdowne Road.
After my futile visit to the copshop about rampant thieving in my street, I decided to pay Hellkom's 'sentrale' a personal visit about unfinished work on my premises.
After numerous phone breakdowns between my two landlines and a succession of different muddy-booted Telkom 'contractors' through my house creating rat's nests of my phones' wiring the last few months, I decided to confront them in person.
Although both phones are working again, they left a pole mounted connection box open to the elements and the cavorting squirrels are having a field day with the innards of the box hanging loose outside the box.
Two or three weeks ago, I lodged a 'fault' at 10217 about the open box as I fear my phonelines are going to go awol again. I now have two separate 'reference numbers' for them to come and close the box but nothing has happened.
So, yesterday I rang the bell at Telkom's sentrale building and eventually the door opened. I had with me an A4 pic of the open box, the reference numbers and explained the reason for my visit without being allowed inside the building.
The bloke I spoke to then told me my 'evidence' of the problem has to go 'upstairs' but refused to take my picture showing the problem.
When I asked "Why?", he told me to my face "Because I'm too lazy" and shut the door.
I rang the doorbell once more and this time a cleaning lady opened the door. I explained to her that I wanted to personally hand details of my problem to someone to come and close the open box before my phone lines break again.
She led me into the building where I saw huge mainframe-type installations and showed me to a solitary employee who took my pic showing the problem, together with all the reference numbers I have.
That was yesterday morning and again, buggerall has happened.
