No, really: my wife hates the matresses in the corners  :-[ Ok, I'll admit that they don't provide the acoustic improvements I was hoping for, but at least they convinced her to allow me to build real bass traps.  ;D

Now, the thing is: I only recently moved my setup to this room. Had my doubts, because it's really big (13m x 7m x 2.9m with wood floor and ceiling). But since I relieved Windshear of his B&W 801's I thought I might give it a try (yes, with only 2 x 40W Dynaco valves to provide oomf ) . And I'm happy! The sound FILLS the room, mids and highs are FREE, even the bass is tight and evenly spread (great mattresses!). Diana Krall... (you know), Beethoven rocks, Pink Floyd sings, heck - Guns 'n Roses ... uhm, works! Of course this didn't just happen without moving 70 or 80kg B&W's (stands included) around a lot without scratching the floor, patching a few reflection points, etc...

(Brief silence while everybody waits for the BUT...)

But... while the bass is really, really good (shutup you SS moegoes!  ;D) it does lack something. Cello sounds great, harp sounds great, contrabass sounds great... but I don't feel the organ's compressors raising the hairs on my arms with pure ambience, or those 16 foot pipes do what they do like they should do and did in my previous sound room.

So, I guess what I'm saying is that my real low end bass is missing, and what I am asking is: does anyone think I can get it back by building really really dence bass traps in the corners? Or... better looking mattressess??

And, no, I will not go SS!  ;D
