Hi, I know nothing about networks but am planning my digital setup now that analogue side is sorted. Looking to purchase a NAS (Synology DS214Play or QNAP HS-251) and a dedicated streamer that will feed into my DAC. I currently use Powerline adapters and Wifi and I know that this is not the most robust setup to transfer sound around. I cannot wire the house with ethernet cables - not an option. I am only getting the NAS for music - don't need it for anything else and can place NAS and streamer in same location in cupboard next to hifi.

I was wondering if there is any way to connect the NAS to the streamer either directly (using one cable) or using a passive switch so that the streamer and NAS communicate directly without sending data across wifi or powerline connections?

Also, I would then still connect the switch to to wifi or powerline to ensure I can use a tablet/smartphone to control the music....would this work? Would the NAS and streamer use the most direct and shortest route to transfer data bypassing any wifi/powerline routes?. That way I can bypass using powerline adapters to transfer sound and eliminate any noise from that and just use wifi for control and maybe sending occasional ripped files to the nas for storage?

Alternatively, for max flexibility I would connect the NAS anywhere in the house and use powerline plug to hook the NAS into the network and also hook the streamer into the network also using powerline plug - but I have read that powerline could add electrical interference on the power side so I am considering alternatives to avoid this..hence my question above..or I am I being paranoid? (I currently use powerline to stream 1080p videos without a problem - so bandwidth wise they are great..)
