ok so,
I'm in the market for a Full HD plasma or LCD 40" - 42" display. Mostly this will be used for gaming on my xbox.
The primary question of course being: Plasma or LCD ?
I've been reading tons and tons of reviews, from 2005 up to the latest, but I'm still not sure.
According to what I've read, these are the issues:
PLASMA:
pros:
1. No response time, typically it runs at 600Hz, so this means that the ghosting effect does not really exist on Plasma
2. More natural colours, better black levels since the pixels of black/dark areas are actually off, and does not emit any light.
3. Better viewing angles, since the light is not passed through 2 polarisers.
cons:
1. It seems the burn in affect is still present, but disappears after a few minutes or so. (with later models) So this will not really be a deciding factor any more.
2. Higher power consumption. (I'm not too worries about this either)
3. According to some reviews, plasmas will not be manufactured any more within 2-3 years.
4. Lifetime, some say 60000 hours, which is more or less the same as lcd.
5. Not as bright as lcd in lighter rooms. (but hey, we've all got curtains right?)
LCD:
pros:
1. Bright colours
2. Lower power consumption
cons:
1. Not very good viewing angle.
2. Motion blur (for a fast paced game, one needs a lcd running 4-6ms response time, 120Hz or more) - expensive.
3. Black levels are not as good (since the pixel is always emitting light, and cannot be put off)
I don't know any more.
So all I want to know, which will be the best for a fast paced game like Halo3, NFS etc. on xbox360.
I'm only looking at Full HD, 1080p displays.
Please give some input.
Then, I'm also considering getting an AV Receive like DENON 1910.
My budget is about 20k for the whole set-up.
Am I aiming too high?
Thanks in advance
Regards
Gunii
