There is now an armless turntable, the PP-1 from a company called Waiting For Ideas, that is made from a solid block of aluminum. The turntable takes 12 weeks to produce and costs over $6,000. The arm, cartridge and phonostage sre built in, and it even has a built-in preamp with volume knob so that you can hook it up directly to a pair of powered loudspeakers for a complete system. Of course, like the old Pioneer stable platter CD players, you have to place the LP upside-down on the platter to play the side you want, and thrn press play.
To me this is just another toy for rich yuppies to amaze their friends with, but hey, it is unique. It's just hella expensive, IMHO. Here's the article:
