About three weeks ago, a bolt of lightning picked a fight with my HT system. Needless to say, the HT system got its arse handed to it. My insurance company replaced my previous amp (Yamaha RXV861) with a Yamaha RXV 1065, but I swopped it for a RXV765 and got a credit for R3,500 from the shop, as the only real difference between the amps is the 10w per channel more, and a front USB on the 1065. At R7,000, the 765 is more amp than most people would need. I've now had it for little more than one day, and I can almost say it's everything the 861 was, plus a whole lot more.
Right, there was nothing in the shop that I could spend the R3,500 on that would really be an upgrade to my system, so we got a Wii, and it's been buckets of fun. The ****** thing is that it outputs to 480p via a composite cable, and I could not find any upgrade to this. It's fine for bowling and boxing, but really blows when playing Trivial Pursuit, where the text on the screen is too small to read comfortably. Question 1 is really, does anyone have tips/tricks/advice to make the Wii look better on my Sony Bravia LCD?
The second issue is that because the new amp now supports Dolby Digital TrueHD and DTS-HD, I have a reason to upgrade from a 5.1 system to a 7.1 system. The issue is that Tannoy (who I got this set of speakers from) does not export to South Africa anymore, or they do not make this series. I would like to keep the new set of speakers (channels 6 and 7) the same brand as the current surround speakers. My dad does have a pair of these that would match my system, but he uses them as stereo bookshelf speakers in his bedroom. He said that if I replace these with something else, I can have them. Question 2: does anyone have a pair of small (read: tiny) bookshelf speakers that I can buy from you, give it to my dad and swop him for the matching Tannoy's and have a 7.1 system? The speakers are about 20cm in height, I cannot give him anything significantly bigger as it will not fit. Please don't offer me Monitor Audio's or something really expensive- I'm looking for something in the region of R500 that you've had lying around your garage. Even something home made that sounds halfway decent would do. He has a small Technics integrated amp, CD player and tuner.
However, if you do have some Monitor's for R500, please feel free to contact me
Thanking you in advance,
Willi
