Noise floor

Hi All,

How does having a low noise floor affect a systems sound when listening to music? The only way I can hear the lower noise floor on my Topping dac is by turning the volume very high with no music playing but I would like to know what sound improvements I should be listening for when music is playing to fully understand what a the noise floor measurement means?

Any technical understanding would be appreciated, especially if you can put it into layman's terms.
