OK. So I have to work today after our internet disappeared Friday. I unfortunately use Googleearth extensively in my work for obtaining various maps. I have the Pro version that allows me to save images in a higher resultion, and it makes documents look pretty :p

Yet, with no internet I have no maps. I have tried Thethering my smartphone to my PC, also tried using the laptop's Vodacom modem, yet Googleearth refuses to correctly resolve the proxy and cannot connect to the web. And I cannot seem to find a way of getting it working on the net. I can use the Laptop, but then I need to install the pro version, disable it on my side and enable the licence on the laptop. All wasting time etc.

This Telkom crap happens every few months for the past few years. And I know that no number of calls will get them out faster. While it presents the most cost effective option when it works, it is a hassle when it doesn't.

So I am now looking for an alternative that I can enable for emergencies such as this. Naturally I do not want to spend a R1,000 a month as this will only be used during the 2 weeks it takes Telkom to wake up, but during that time I do need internet. Because I need to supply internet to about 8 other PCs, I also need something that allows sharing for desktop PCs.

Any recommendations ?

Oh yeah, and I truly hate Telkom, have been for years.
