I am saddened to have to announce the demise of my almost three year old Onkyo TX NR-1007 due to a tragic DSP card failure. It is repairable, but at a cost which approaches its value. The folks at Audiotronic have been helpful, amongst other things by collecting it from a friend in Pretoria who had taken it from Cape Town on my behalf. They have also kindly offered me a good trade-in on it, which leaves me with a dilemma. I can opt for the more or less equivalent model, which is the TX NR-1010 or the top of the range 5010.
Both models offer pretty much the same set of features, the main differences are in the power supplies and amplification stages:
Are these diffs worth the ~R8k extra for the 5010? The 1010 meets my current needs, but does not leave lots of scope for expansion, especially if you want to play around with bi-amping, and external power amps.
Any thoughts?
