After I upgraded to my new screen, my old SONY KLV-40S200A went into storage. The picture from standard def sources - upscaled to 720P through a SONY AVR - never impressed.
I just assumed replacing my mother's old 74cm Panasonic CRT with the SONY wouldn't be worth the effort, seeing as the only source she had was SD.
I was hugely impressed when I eventually swapped them out! I'm sure the SD picture looks better than when upscaled through the AVR. Must be a good scaler built into the SONY?
