Hi,
I got an Onkyo 989 that was doing duty in the lounge, mainly as a stereo amp (yes, I know, but it is the only amp I know of that I could set the startup volume as well as limit the maximum volume .. I have kids). It basically consisted of the front speakers and centre, no surround.
However, after my wife informed me that the subwoofers that NSL is crafting would not be allowed inside the house I decided to change an unused room into a listening / home theater room. Yesterday I for the first time connected speakers to the Surround side and Surround Back terminals.
However, when I wanted to calibrate the speakers, no sound were coming from the surround back speakers.
Now, before people ask questions:
Any ideas please. I actually love the sound of this Onkyo, even while old. I got it last year from Mervin and the AVR were never really used for anything serious ?

- The speakers were/are active under 1.Speakers/Config. The Fronts are set as large, the sides as small and the backs as small. No sub-woofer yet.
- I did read the manual in detail after I tried everything else.
- The speakers works (new), as I swapped the speaker connectors around (use banana plugs) and tested again. Beautiful pink noise from back speakers when connected to the surround side terminals.
Any ideas please. I actually love the sound of this Onkyo, even while old. I got it last year from Mervin and the AVR were never really used for anything serious ?
