i have a pro-ject rpm1 TT and it came fitted with the ortofon OMB 3E cartridge. i was given a Sumiko pearl to try on the TT.
i was warned that i may be disappointed with the Pearl, and i was. the difference to the ortofon 3E was not enough to make me want to buy one.
i then opted for the ortofon Blue as the Red is rated similar to the Pearl.
the difference was immediate. i would not say that the sound was hugely different, there was an increase in the base, the biggest and best difference was to the Kellogg's (Snap, Crackle and Pop)
the sound cleaned up. i started playing frisbee's that i knew had bad noises on them, they sounded good. and the one's that sounded good before now sounded great.
now i really want the Black.
this is just my finding.
i believe that there is a run-in time required, if so things can only get better.
