It is the B&O type 608:

Now, with an iPod or my cellphone it sounds awesome. It really makes an iPod sound much better than it should. Plugged into my main setup the iPod is horrendous! Same goes for the phone...
Yet when I plug a standard CD player into the B&O it does not sound so good. Muddy/muddled with some slight yet discernable popping noises during loud sections of a CD.
Is the voltage output of the CD player overloading the pre-amp section of the B&O? Could this be the cause of the less than great sound?
Would the solution presented on this page be a realistic option:

The B&O does not have DIN plugs... I do imagine the concept and the values mentioned would be the same though....
