Some speakers, like B&W, seem to be power hungry thus need serious grunt ito power. I would think if one over powers speakers for a short-time, no damage can be expected, I just want to know the worst that can happen on a long term ownership of overpowering speakers (say the speaker rating is 200w and you feed them 400w)
Question:
Is it okay to overpower speakers on a long term basis and what's the max that one should go for 1.5x to 2 ratio (amp vs speaker rating)
Any feedback from people with experience:
Thermal damage to speaker coil? too much energy / current sent to speaker which cannot all dissipate thus frying the speaker coils?
What causes tweeter damages that some folks post on the forum, could it be due to too much power from the amp?
