I myself am sorted, I just carry in my inverter and battery, then switch on my TV etc.
But my father is older and don't want to carry batteries around etc, and he wants it to look professional ;D Not standing around like mine.

So he thought of buying 2X 105AH Deep cycle batts and a pure sinewave inverter. He just wants to power 3 to 5 lights or so, and two decoders and two tv's for when the power goes off. He does have gas stoves etc so don't need more than 2X batteries, I think he just needs 1. But here is the catch. He wants to fully integrate it into his main switchboard, just like people do with generators.
Only difference is his will be silent. What does he need to buy before contacting a electrical company to just come and do the installation?
He did get quotes, but for some reason they are overcharging a lot with the batteries and inverter. They also don't want to do it unless he gets solar panels. He don't want solar panels but rather wants a good inteligent charger permanently coupled to the batteries. They say no its not possible? That I don't believe myself.
Any advice? Who has done something like this?
