My son tells me the Samsung 50" plasma went out with a bang yesterday. It still responds to the remote iro power on/off. When trying to power it up there're two audible "clicks" as it tries to power up followed by a wait and then the same. This happens about 3x then it gives up. The AVR recognises the TV is on and you can hear whatever channel DSTV is playing. Power off the TV and the AVR goes into sleep mode.
Questions:
- any idea of what's lost its magic smoke? is this an easy/ cheap repair
- I have extended warranty purchased through Game at same time TV was bought. Any tips/ traps dealing with the warranty providers to ensure quick and optimal solution/ turnaround - would they typically repair or simply replace?
- thinking about a display panel as a replacement - are these sorts of displays viable from a cost perspective?
