Polk rti 5 tweeter burn

My friend left his system alone and his guests pumped the volume a bit higher than usual, and ended up blowing the tweeters.
He used a rs-500.
Now the feedback he is getting from the suppliers is that there wasnt enough power at the high volume which resulted in the drivers pulling all the power, and burning the tweeter coil.
Questionable ?
