I built a water feature/ pond in our front garden and finally got it up and running early this summer.  In the middle of the pond is a hollow concrete plinth on which the 3 tier water feature rests. Inside the plinth there's some cabling and possibly sufficient ledge for a frog to rest on (I'm guessing here).  In any event, we've successfully kept goldfish (about 20 of the buggers) throughout the season and a while back I noticed a frog coming up for air (I'd filled it almost to the brim so the water was about 1m deep and the plinth was also further submerged than is usually the case). I caught the frog n a net and released it thinking that was the last of it.  A few days later the same frog is in our house surrounded by cats.  I rescued it, set it free in our garden and thought that was the last of it.  A few days later I see the same frog back in the pond, with a section of one of its legs white - obviously damaged by the cats.  At this stage I left it alone figuring it'd die and/or drown (pond was no longer as full).  I kept a lookout for it and after not seeing it for around a week or two I figured it'd drowned or left (couldn't see a carcass in the water).

Last night I filled the pond again and today said frog reappears in the pond, leg nicely healed - I'm guessing he's living inside the plinth and must've found a way to keep out of the water as long as the pond isn't too full.  So there I was draining the pond just enough that I know he'll be able to find himself a spot.  Strange how nature flourishes unassisted given the right conditions.
