Power amps

Hi there,

i have a quick question...(but any in depth explanations are also welcome)
If a power amp has balanced XLR and RCA phono inputs, can you use both of them?
eg. Connecting a pre amp with balanced outputs and the LF and LR preouts of an AV reciever to the power amp??? Or is that looking for trouble?
