Hi Guys,

I should be taking delivery of a Rotel BR 985 this weekend. The plan is to use this and Bi-amp my Monitor Audio GS20's. For now, I will be using my Yamaha RXV 659 as a pre- amp for this and will use the 2 front Pre outs ,split them into the front and rear input of the Rotel and hopefully get the desired result. The Rotel is rated at 100W p/ch @ 8 ohms al channels driven and I have been told to expect improved results even if I do not bi-amp over the HK3770 120W RM p/ch class A/B.

Where/What sort of pre amp would be good to look at here as I do not want to use the RXV659 as a pre-amp forever. It will take a few months to build up the budget for this.
A built in DAC would be nice as well as remote control capabilities. I do not at any stage intend to use this as a surround amp so the centre channel will always be unused.
Is there maybe a DIY option here as well? This is all new territory for me but an integrated with grunt is out of my reach at the moment so thought id try this.
Another option as well would to just get a DAC and keep using the RXV659 as a pre-amp as I'm hoping that a good analogue signal going in will be a good analogue signal being fed to the Power amp? This system will replace my HK3770 which will find its way to the bedroom and power speakers more realistically matched to it, my B&W 602 S3

There was a Parasound pre and power amp I wanted , but my budget doesn't even nearly allow for that. Can one sort this out using the equipment I've got for a couple of grand or so or am I in a dream world. I often read that good sound doesn't always need to be expensive, So I'm hoping some of that thinking will pop up here and Ill end up with something that sounds good.

The Rotel is one of those failsafe purchase's(like the HK3770) that I hope I can get my money back for if it doesn't work for me as I have not had the chance to audition this. At just over R3K , I hope I can get all or at least most of it back if this doesn't work for me.
