"Drawbacks of Tidal: expensive compared to e.g. Apple; cannot download lossless files to your device."

Hi not sure about the above, the Tidal monthly cost to me on the top tier <MAX > is about R 70 per month.  I would not classify that as onerous.

I on a regular basis create playlists  on Roon all lossless and at the highest bitrate available , move them to Tidal and then download them to my Android phone or iPAD from Tidal.  When playing from my phone the bit rate etc is definately lossless and the same as what is displayed in Roon.  Right now I am playing the latest Dawes album from a downloaded Tidal copy on my Android phone and  the track details reported are Flac 24 bit 44.1 Khz.  I am using the native Tidal app on my phone.

With Tidal, I have that integration in Roon when I want it, and I also have "Tidal direct" integration to various audio devices about the house when I want it, and Tidal direct also is definately lossless.

Possibly the download is not lossless when on an Apple device, its possble that Airplay may play a role here, I need to check what is happening when using the iPAD.
