Hi,

Many things depreciate in value, or do they?
Reason why i say or ask this, is because one would see some audio gear, being sold for a fairly Reasonable amount of money.

Lets assume a stereo amp cost - R10 000, ten years ago? And it can be bought for approximately R3000 now.
Around this time, a replacement or an updated version would have been released, or will be released depending on their replacement time.
So assuming u have the bucks to get the new one, say at R13000 with one or two added features, and claimed improvements on the amplifier and let's also assume that the previous version was very good to begin with.

1. Would u purchase the older amp, seeing that they are very similar in sound or get the older one and spend the balance else where (room treatments/cables etc).
2. If u only had R3000 bucks to spend, would it be wiser to purchase a new entry level stereo amplifier (with the hope that the 10 year gap of technology, will offer better value/sound), or opt for the older amp that is retailing for less but use to be a few notches above entry level (hoping it will offer better value than an entry level stereo amplifier).

It would be interesting to know what would the members of this forum do - especially ones who have been around and have experienced this.

Klyv.
