So my 9 year old threw a curve ball this year by requesting a violin for Xmas. She plays the piano and has taken guitar lessons, and it appears she's not committed to any one instrument so I am not keen to overspend. Like many things I'm sure a secondhand violin beats a new one of the same price, but I have no idea where to look and what to look for. I'd welcome advice on what can be had in the 2-3k range and what should be avoided.
