Quick DSTV HDPVR Question re volume control

Since installing the Pace HDPVR my connection is HDPVR > AVR > TV - all using HDMI cable.  Seems the PVR remote does not change volume on the HD channels, so you have to resort to using the AVR's remote.  There a quick workaround?
