Quick question- dvd player picture quality

Hi guys
I think someone explained this to me previously but I cannot find the thread.....
With the new plasma, I have connected the PS3 and Mede8er to the receiver via HDMI. My dvd player is currently connected to the receiver using an digital coax cable and then a video cable. Would I see a vastly improved picture if I rather used the blue, red and green video connections from dvd player to receiver instead of the single video cable? If so, can someone tell me why so I can also learn from the answer.
