The other day I got to listen to a pair of loudspeakers at a dealer. It is a personal favourite of quite few people on the forum, claiming it the best thing since sliced bread. I had great expectations and came away thinking ..... what the hell?

Im struggling to put into perspective how crap the sound was. The bass was bloated, boomy nothing like the tight stuff everyone claims to hear. The midrange incoherent, with the image slightly skewed to the left and the HF skewed to the right. Imaging was so so, with no massive sound stage. As a point of reference I brought along three of my favourite discs that are well recorded and have a wide spectrum of sounds to cover most tastes and instruments. My system which costs a lot less than this "reference" system totally blows it out of the water.

I would like to give the equipment the benefit of the doubt and blame the room acoustics, since so many people swear by the ability of it. Honestly I don't think the acoustics are fully at fault here. Sadly I must say this has been my audio lowlight of the year. So much so that I don't even want to give it another try as I cant see anything making a difference in terms of the supposed magical brand. What makes it really interesting for me is that I don't normally easily give out a viewpoint on something like this, but boy oh boy am I disappointed.
